Third-party ship inspection - classification society
Classification society is a non-profit organization independent of the government and shipowners. It is mainly responsible for the inspection, certification and supervision of ships, offshore facilities, containers and related industrial products to ensure that they meet specific safety standards and technical specifications.
The mission of the classification society is to protect the marine environment, ensure the safety of ships and personnel, and promote the development of the international shipping industry.
The services provided by the classification society usually include classification services and statutory services. The classification service is based on the voluntary application of the shipowner. The classification society inspects the ship to make it comply with the specifications of the classification society and obtain the classification symbol and additional mark. The statutory service is a mandatory inspection or audit of the ship based on the authorization of the flag state government.
The certification of the classification society is regarded as a sign of the quality and safety of the ship. Ships certified by the classification society can usually obtain higher credibility and market competitiveness. In addition, the classification society also provides industrial services, including quality system certification, engineering inspection, cargo inspection, notarization inspection of ships and offshore facilities, technical consultation, calculation and evaluation, etc.
